MARK AND LARD LEAVE RADIO 1

After ten years, the funnymen move on to pastures new...

RADIO 1 presenters MARK and LARD are to leave the station after ten years on the air.

The comedy duo rose to fame on their afternoon slot on the station. Mark Riley (Lard) will move to sister digital station 6 Music in April, while Mark Radcliffe will move to Radio 2 later in the year.

The afternoon show is expected to be taken over by Colin Murray and Edith Bowman in the coming months.

Radcliffe joined the station in 1991, where he was given a late night show on Radio 1. Riley was a former member of Fall, and a music press officer, and was a regular guest on the show. Eventually, Riley became Radcliffe’s sidekick on the afternoon show.

Lesley Douglas, music controller of Radio 2 and 6 Music said: “I’ve been talking to them for a long time and I’m delighted to have secured their talents.”

“I have been discussing this with Radio 1 controller Andy Parfitt for some months now and I am pleased that BBC Radio can provide a home for such exceptional presenters.”
