The veteran Welsh band's cunning ruse gets the full treatment...
The scam which saw post-punkers THE ALARM score a Top 30 hit earlier in the year is to be made into a HOLLYWOOD film.
The band released ‘45 RPM’ in February under the guise of ‘The Poppyfields’. They even got fellow Welsh band The Wayriders to lip-synch the song in the video, fearing the image obsessed industry would sideline the track if they appeared as themselves.
Frontman Mike Peters has agreed to let producers tell the story of how the band duped the music industry, reports the Daily Post.
‘Shrek’ producer John Williams thought up the idea, roping in the band’s lifelong friend Sara Sugarman to direct the film, which will be shot on location in north Wales.
The film will be semi-fictional, and will portray The Alarm as a band who had split since the Eighties and reunite for a Joe Strummer tribute gig.
