The MTV is the favourite to front the new 'Evening Session'...
ZANE LOWE has emerged as the clear favourite to replace STEVE LAMACQ when the EVENING SESSION is binned by RADIO 1 later this year.
The New Zealander, currently a DJ on London-based alternative radio station XFM and a presenter on MTV, will almost certainly be named Lamacq’s successor in the coming days.
While current Radio 1 DJs Colin Murray and Mikey Davis were also in the running, Lowe was always the clear favourite. It appears that Lowe’s higher national profile has swung it for him.
It is unclear just how Lowe’s new show will differ from Lamacq’s. Radio One have made non-specific noises of late about the replacement.
“We want to take championing of alternative music to the next level,” senior executive Ian Parkinson told NME.COM recently.
As NME.COM went to press Radio 1 are refusing to be drawn on Lamacq’s replacement insisting no decision has been finalised.
