Me First And The Gimme Gimmies are back in action...
The punk-ska supergroup ME FIRST AND THE GIMME GIMMIES, featuring members of NOFX and FOO FIGHTERS, are preparing to release their third album next month, NME.COM can reveal.
The outfit, which formed in 1995, featuring NOFX’s Fat Mike on bass, Foo’s Chris Shifflet and Lagwagon’s Joey Cape on guitar, Lagwagon’s Dave Raun on drums and Swingin’ Utters Spike Slawson on vocals, will release ‘Blow in the Wind’, a 13-track album of ’60s covers, on March 20 via Fat Wreck Chords.
Speaking in a statement, Fat Mike joked: “We wanted to do a ’60s album ‘cos the ’60s should be remembered for great songs not stinkin’ hippies.”
Lawson added: “Other bands rip off and re-hash old melodies and riffs. At least when we do it, it’s word for word and note for note.”
The record features their version of classics from artists including The Beach Boys, Cat Stevens, The Shirelles, and The Turtles.
The full track listing for ‘Blowin’ in the Wind’ is:
‘Blowin’ In The Wind’
‘Sloop John B’
‘Who Put The Bomp’
‘My Boyfriend’s Back’
‘All my Loving’
‘Stand By Your Man’
‘I Only Want to Be With You’
‘Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?’
The group have also been added to the Vans Warped Tour line up for 2001.
