UNKLE headline national tour, Mercury Rev headline at London shows, details of NME Premier Awards film...

Details of the NME Premier Awards 1999 were unveiled today. The NME Premier Awards, voted by NME readers and writers, will be announced early next year, but will be preceeded by the now traditional festival of great music across the nation.

There will be a national tour followed by a week of shows at the London WC2 Astoria, with headliners Mercury Rev amongst the first to be confirmed. This year, however, the events will be filmed and shown at selected cinemas across the country before beings shown on Channel 4 in February and March. There will also be four NME Premier Unsigned showcases around the country.

UNKLE (pictured) featuring Mo Wax founder James Lavelle, Scratch Perverts and guest DJs will play as part of the NME Premier Tour early in 1999. The bill, which will also feature Idlewild and DELAKOTA will visit venues across the country.
