Top executives from both UNIVERSAL RECORDS and MP3.COM are to speak at music industry convention IN THE CITY in MANCHESTER next week.
Chairman and CEO of Universal Music UK, John Kennedy, will deliver the keynote speech at the annual convention on September 24. The day before, Michael Robertson, President of mp3.com will also deliver a speech.
The event will come just weeks after a New York court ordered mp3.com to pay Universal #81 million for breach of copyright. The decision was hailed as a landmark verdict with regard to the future of file-sharing and music exchange over the Internet. Both speakers were confirmed before the verdict.
In The City is the music industry’s annual convention and live showcase. Over the four days it boasts the largest urban live music showcase in Europe, and is known as the music industry’s premier conferencing opportunity. In The City was founded by music entrepreneur and broadcaster Tony Wilson in 1992. Notable live shows throughout the four days include a joint showcase between big beat label Skint and indie stable Jeepster, featuring Snow Patrol, Salako, Cut La Roc and Space Raiders at Jilly’s Rockworld (September 25), two nights from The Clint Boon Experience at theme bar Fab Cafe (25-26), and local label Twisted Nerve‘s ‘A Tale of Three Cities’. Hosted by the label founded by Mercury Prize winner Badly Drawn Boy, it features live sets from Alfie and DOT, a DJ set from Badly Drawn Boy, and a screening of cult documentary ‘Tales From A Hard City’. The event takes place at Withington Cinecity (25).
