nme.com is officially the Manchester United of websites after walking off with the BT Interactive Magazine Of The year Award at last night’s prestigious PPA (Press & Publisher’s Association) Awards at Grosvenor House in London last night.
The award recognises the achievements of the site and editor Anthony Thornton, who took over in November last year. nme.com has taken a great leap forward in terms of design, content and user figures over the period of his stewardship.
Anthony Thornton said: “It’s fantastic. I feel like Oasis at Maine Road – we beat off a lot of tough competition to win. It’s immensely gratifying that the excellence of nme.com and the hard work put in by the dedicated team has been recognised.
“The award is as much for the people who come back everyday and make the site – and Angst in particular – the vibrant, exciting place it is.
“But this is just the start we’re going to work flat out to make nme.com the first place to go for cutting edge music and interactivity on the internet.”
While we’re not much given to blowing our own trumpet and prefer to let our achievements speak for themselves, in this instance we’re going to take a deep breath and give it a good hard blast.
