Watch Young Thug use ‘funeral procession’ to publicise new mixtape

The 'wake' included a marching band

Days after riding through his home city of Atlanta on a horse to promote his new tour, rapper Young Thug has announced the release date for his new mixtape, ‘Slime Season 3’, with a funeral parade at SXSW.

The new mixtape follows two from 2015 – November’s ‘Slime Season 2’ and September’s ‘Slime Season’. The 24-year-old’s publicity ‘wake’ travelled down Austin, Texas’ 6th Street – a graffitied coffin accompanied by a marching band. See videos below.

Last month the rapper released another mixtape, ‘I’m Up’, featuring Boosie tribute ‘F Cancer (Boosie)’ and including special guests Lil Durk, Migos’ Quavo, and another from Migos’ Offset project. Originally, the mixtape was called ‘Slime Season 3’. After a Twitter feud with Future, however, Thug announced the album’s title changed to ‘I’m Up’. ‘Slime Season 3’ will now be released on March 25 via 300 Entertainment.

Meanwhile, in January, Young Thug compared Kanye West to ’50 Shades of Grey’, as a way of explaining that he finds the high-profile hip-hop star “interesting.

“Kanye’s like 50 Shades of Grey,” he said. “He’s interesting. You want to be like, ‘I want to be around him, let’s see.’ He’s interesting and he’s really into music, he really is. He don’t interview you or nothin,’ he’s just like ‘come on, listen to these beats, listen to these songs, I might put these out’.

“He lets you just—he opens up fast. I think he’s a guy almost every man would want to be, or would want to be like, or would want to be in that direction, including me. He’s cool, caring. He has a real work ethic. If I was in his position, I’d still work, but I wouldn’t work as hard as him.”
