GLASTONBURY FESTIVAL was granted a public entertainment license by Mendip District Council on Wednesday, meaning that the festival is now confirmed. There was little doubt that the license would be granted, though health and safety conditions were stipulated to avoid problems faced by the two previous festivals where rain made conditions unpleasant for fans.
The attendance is limited to 100,500 and 40 acres of higher ground will be used…so if it rains, you can run for the hills.
Tickets, priced #85 (including handling charge, VAT, camping, car parking, souvenir program) will go on sale on April 1 – next Thursday – and are limited to four per person. Caravan and camper-van tickets are an extra #25 and must be bought at the same time as you buy your festival ticket.
The bill will not be announced before publication of the souvenir program, though bands already confirmed include REM, Orbital, Mogwai, Mercury Rev, Ash, Joe Strummer, Tindersticks, The Beautiful South, Al Green, Freestylers, Underworld, Super Furry Animals, The Manic Street Preachers, Hole, Cast, Ash, The Cardigans, Chemical Brothers and Roni Size. Marilyn Manson now also looks likely to play.
Tickets for Glastonbury will be available from nme.com‘s 24-hour ticketline on 0870 121 0125 FROM NEXT THURSDAY or click here to go to our online ticket service.
