EMINEM beat off strong competition from children’s TV favourite BOB THE BUILDER to go straight into the UK singles chart at Number One today.
In the most tightly-contested chart battle of the year so far, the rap superstar’s latest release ‘Stan’ finally triumphed over the animated hero’s ‘Can We Fix It’? after neck-and-neck sales all week. In the end, Bob, voiced by television star Neil Morrissey, sold 188,000 copies – the highest first week sales of the year so far for a Number Two position. But Eminem’s controversial single ‘Stan’ about a crazed fan who kills his pregnant wife, sold even more to go straight into the charts at the top spot.
It’s his second UK Number One after ‘The Real Slim Shady’ earlier this year and features the sampled vocals of Dido, sister of Rollo from top UK dance act Faithless.
Eminem and Bob The Builder’s fight for the top pushed last week’s Number One S Club 7’s ‘Never Had A Dream Come True’ down to Number Three.
Former Number One ‘Independent Woman’ from Destiny’s Child was at Number Four, Leanne Rimes ‘Can’t Fight The Moonlight’ at Number Five and The Baha Men remain in the Top Ten at Number Six with ‘Who Let The Dogs Out?’ at Number Six.
Britney Spears had a new entry at Number Seven with her new single ‘Stronger’ and other notable new entries included Wyclef Jean featuring Mary J Blige and ‘911’ at Number Nine, Sisqo at Number 13 with ‘Incomplete’ and Jay Z at Number 17 with ‘I Just Wanna Love You (Give It To Me)’.
