MADONNA will record her appearance for ‘TOP OF THE POPS’ later this evening (November 23), marking her only UK television performance of the year.
Madonna will now record two tracks for the show, one of which, new single ‘Don’t Tell Me’, will be aired on this Friday’s show (November 24).
The other song is likely to be former single ‘Music’, which will be used on the traditional ‘Top Of The Pops’ Christmas special next month.
Sources within TOTP have indicated that original plans to record more material for a ‘Madonna Special’, featuring archived footage also, are now less likely.
Madonna will arrive at the BBC studios at Elstree near London at approximately 6pm, and rehearse the songs she is to perform soon after.
She will then record the songs on the same show as Wyclef Jean, Ronan Keating, Toploader and Kylie Minogue – who Madonna recently namechecked on a T-shirt at the MTV Europe Music Awards in Sweden.
A spokesperson for the show said that no special requirements have been made, as “nobody is bigger than ‘Top Of The Pops'”. She added that somewhat unusually, tickets for the Top Of the Pops “Tweenies special”, which will feature the BBC children’s characters “are equally in demand”.
Madonna plays her first UK live show in almost seven years at the London Brixton Academy on November 28. She has also revealed plans to tour Europe in summer 2001.
