Apple launches new Music Memos app aimed at musicians

The app has a number of features intended to aid musicians in drafting songs

Apple has launched a new app aimed at helping musicians to record ideas for songs.

Music Memos is a more powerful version of the company’s existing Voice Memos app which allows users to record audio on their iPhones and iPads.

The app includes a number of additional features geared towards musicians such as higher quality recordings, the ability to tag information and presets for drums and other instruments.

In addition, Music Memos can begin recording automatically by detecting when an instrument is being played and analyse guitar and piano recordings to suggest chords or notation.

Apple released the app together with an update for GarageBand. The latest version of the software introduces a feature called ‘Live Loops’ which functions similar to a MPC.

T-Pain, who said that he had recorded his first album on GarageBand, said that the new update will “change the way an entire generation makes music”.

Music Memos is available to download for free from the App Store.

Earlier this year, Apple announced that their music streaming service has over 10m subscribers. The latest figures put the company halfway towards catching up with Spotify’s subscriber base.
