Other winners at Los Angeles ceremony included Rihanna, The Weeknd, Fall Out Boy and Ed Sheeran
The Weeknd, Fall Out Boy, Ed Sheeran and Nicki Minaj also picked up awards at the Los Angeles ceremony last night (November 22). Jennifer Lopez hosted the ceremony, which was held at the Microsoft Theatre.
Swift picked up three awards despite not being at the ceremony. Her prizes included Song of the Year for ‘Blank Space’ and Favourite Pop/Rock album for ‘1989’ plus Favourite Adult Contemporary Artist. Rihanna also chose to stay away from the awards but was named Favourite Soul/R&B Female Artist.
Meanwhile, One Direction took home Artist of the Year for the second year in a row, and Favourite Group. The Weeknd also collected two prizes (Favourite Soul/R&B Male Artist and Favourite Soul/R&B Album for ‘Beauty Behind The Madness’).
Nicki Minaj won Best Rap/Hip-Hop Artist and ‘The Pinkprint’ was named Best Rap/Hip-Hop Album. Ed Sheeran won Favourite Pop/Rock Male Artist, while Ariana Grande won Favourite Pop/Rock Female Artist.
Favourite Alternative Artist went to Fall Out Boy, and Jack Ü’s ‘Where Are U Now?’ featuring Justin Bieber was named Collaboration of the Year.
Bieber led the performances with a medley of hits from new album ‘Purpose’, including ‘Sorry’ and ‘What Do U Mean’ (See above). Coldplay, meanwhile, played new song ‘Adventure Of A Lifetime’ while an ape danced on stage next to them.
The recent Paris attacks were mentioned as Celine Dion gave a powerful performance of Edith Piaf’s ‘Hymne A L’amour’, dedicating the performance to the victims who lost their lives on November 13.
