The University of Suffolk will recognise his Outstanding Contribution To Music later this year
Ed Sheeran will be awarded an honorary degree for his Outstanding Contribution To Music.
The singer will be presented with the award by his local University of Suffolk (UCS) at a special graduation ceremony later this year.
Sheeran, who grew up in the Suffolk town of Framlingham, commented on the news of the award:
“I’ve had an amazing year with my world tour and this makes it even better. Suffolk is very much where I call home and I’m always welcomed back and get so much support.”
“Receiving this recognition is a real privilege. UCS is at an exciting point in its development and I look forward to building links with UCS and its students in the months and years to come.”
The British singer, whose second album ‘X’ was released last year, recently unveiled a huge lion tattoo across his chest. Sheeran is well-known for his inked collection and among other images, has tattoos of the Heinz tomato ketchup logo, the Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air typography and a teddy bear, referencing his childhood nickname ‘Teddy’.
Sheeran also recently revealed that he once “sharted” onstage. The singer told the crowd at an intimate gig in Dublin last month (July 23) that his messy mishap occurred after he “misjudged a fart” midway through a live set.
“I actually once misjudged a fart onstage, which ended up being a shart,” he recalled. “It was, like, midway through a performance and I was really lively, and then halfway through I was like, ‘Alright, I’m just going to stand for the rest of the performance, and hope it’s over soon and then go home and throw these trousers out!'”
Continuing, Sheeran told the crowd that his underpants-based calamity was caused by a temporary illness rather than any ongoing problem, the Daily Mail reports. “I had flown from London to Tokyo to Sydney to England, all in three days, and it messed me up and I was very ill,” Sheeran explained.
Meanwhile, Ed Sheeran will join Lana Del Rey among the guest stars on The Weeknd’s new album, ‘Beauty Behind The Madness’.
