Police seize £175,000 worth of drugs at Bestival

A third of which was placed in amnesty bins

Police seized £175,000 worth of drugs from festival-goers at Bestival.

Just over a third of the drugs and psychoactive substances – worth £62,518 – taken by police were placed in amnesty bins, reports Portsmouth News.

Police also said they prevented a Ford Transit van contained £14,000 worth of NoS canisters from entering Fishbourne on Thursday.

This year’s crime figures for the Isle of Wight festival were in line with previous years. 202 crimes were reported to Hampshire Constabulary, an increase of 20 from 2015.

Police attributed the rise to an increase in thefts from tents.

Superintendent Andy Houghton, police commander at Bestival, said: ‘We worked closely with organisers and partner agencies to keep all those attending safe, and the initial figures compiled on Sunday show our operations onsite were successful.’
