Dolly Parton has denied miming at Glastonbury during her much talked-about show yesterday (June 29).
Viewers watching the BBC’s coverage – including Elbow keyboardist Craig Potter – claimed the Nashville veteran was miming during a show that featured hits such as ‘9 To 5’ and ‘Jolene’.
But Parton’s spokesman responded: “Dolly sings live. Some people don’t know an amazing singer when they hear one.” Stephen Fry had earlier waded into the row, as he blamed a technical fault in the broadcasting equipment. He tweeted: “Believe me, that is not miming. If it appears not always to lip-sync that’s an HD live processor issue. You see it with news reporters.” But the BBC denied there was anything wrong with their gear.
The accusations didn’t dent Parton’s popularity on site, and it’s predicted that her albums will enjoy a sales boost. Her current one, ‘Blue Smoke’, reached Number Six, becoming the highest-charting album of her career in the UK.
Fellow Glastonbury headliners Metallica also enjoyed a sales boost. A spokesman for the Official Charts Company told NME: “‘The Black Album’ went up from Number 195 to Number 49. Metallica’s Saturday headline show was too late for a major post-festival boost but we’re expecting to see a good sales increase for both Metallica and Dolly when we get early chart sales figures through on Tuesday morning.”
Such a shame that she’s miming #DollyGlasto
