Nick Grimshaw hospitalised after swallowing glass during Radio 1 show broadcast

Fearne Cotton had to finish off presenting the DJ's Breakfast Show

DJ Nick Grimshaw had to go to hospital after swallowing glass during the broadcast of his BBC Radio 1 show this morning (March 3).

Grimshaw was replaced by fellow DJ Fearne Cotton for the last 45 minutes of his show as he was taken to hospital for an X-ray. The glass was apparently in a mug from which Grimshaw was drinking. BBC Newsbeat reports that the cause of the incident is being looked into. The DJ was given the all-clear and later tweeted: “Went to hospy, had X-rays, coughed it up, all fine now.”

Meanwhile, Grimshaw has been made the favourite to replace James Corden as host of The Brit Awards for the 2015 ceremony. Corden, who has hosted the ceremony for the past four years, will move aside next year. Radio 1 Breakfast Show host Grimshaw has been installed as the early favourite, with Emma Willis and comedian Jack Whitehall also in contention.

Other names on William Hill‘s shortlist include One Direction member Harry Styles, Fearne Cotton and comedians including Keith Lemon, Russell Brand and Alan Carr. James Corden has odds of 8/1 to reverse his decision and stay on as host while Adele, who famously stuck two fingers up at Brits organisers in 2012 after having her acceptance speech cut short, is an outsider with odds of 100/1.
