US singer is expected to announce a series of live shows at La Havas' home later today (February 4)
Lianne La Havas has discussed her friendship with Prince ahead of a press conference rumoured to be taking place at her house later today (February 4), where the US singer is expected to announce details of live dates in London.
The US singer is expected to announce a series of shows promoting ‘Plectrumelectrum’, the first album by 3rdeyegirl – his new band. The plan is for Prince to play iconic venues in and around London and has chosen La Havas’ house as the first.
La Havas and Prince struck up a friendship during her tour of America in 2013. Speaking to Time Out about Prince, she says: “He heard my music, somehow, two years ago and decided he wanted to meet me. So after a show in New York, I went to Paisley Park, Prince’s studio outside of Minneapolis. We listened to music and had crudités and tea. He had PG Tips. It was surreal.”
Explaining that Prince recently visited her at home, La Havas continues: “I’ve never had [a global megastar] play in my house, but Prince has been here before. A few months ago. [He’s] very respectful, which is good. He’s tidy and just lovely.”He really cares. Anyone who loves music would have something in common with him.”
Late last year it was rumoured that Prince was planning to embark on a UK tour in 2014. The shows will mark the first time he has played multiple UK dates since since 2007, when he appeared for 21 nights at London’s O2 Arena.
