Listen to Conor Oberst cover Bill Withers for new Amazon series

The singer recorded the track for the soundtrack of an Amazon series

Bright Eyes singer Conor Oberst has covered Bill Withers’ soul classic Lean on Me for the soundtrack of Amazon series ‘Gortimer Gibbon’s Life on Normal Street.’

Oberst’s take on Withers’ song is among four new covers that have been specifically recorded for the soundtrack to the show’s second season.

Other tracks include Sharon Van Etten’s cover of ‘Do You Realise’? by The Flaming Lips and The Avett Brothers’ take on Louis Armstrong’s ‘What a Wonderful World.’

The final track in the collection, all of which can be listened to below, is Andrew Bird’s cover of Ben E.King’s ‘Stand By Me’.

Describing her involvement with the soundtrack, Sharon Van Etten said: “When I was asked to cover a Flaming Lips song for Gortimer Gibbons, I was really nervous.

“But when I watched the scene and heard from the people involved in the music, they really wanted to hear my interpretation of both the scene and the song. The show is sweet and smart and family oriented—and that is really important to me. So glad I was able to be a part.”

Gortimer Gibbon’s Life on Normal Street debuted on Amazon in February 2015, and follows the life of the young titular character as he grows up with his friends on Normal Street, a standard American suburb where magical occurrences often taken place beneath the surface.
