Beyonce, Rihanna and Pharrell Williams have all featured in a new video to highlight the ways in which black Americans have been killed by police officers.
The video, which has been put together by Alicia Keys’s We Are Here foundation, is titled ’23 Ways You Could Be Killed If You Are Black In America.’
Each artist featured in the video takes a turn to outline one of the ways in which African Americans have been killed in recent years, including the deaths of Tamir Rice, Eric Garner and Trayvon Martin – who was killed by a neighbourhood watch officer.
Beyonce is heard to say: “Riding in your girlfriend’s car with a child in the back”, referencing the death of Philando Castile – whose death was captured in a Facebook Live video last week.
Other high-profile names in the clip, which appears to have been shot individually by each featured star, include Bono, Adam Levine and Chance the Rapper.
In a passionate call to action at the end of the video, Alicia Keys says: “We demand radical transformation to heal the long history of systemic racism so that all Americans have the equal right to live and pursue happiness.”
Beyonce’s involvement in the clip is her latest show of support for the Black Lives Matter campaign, after she displayed the names of those killed by police on a screen at her Glasgow show last week.
