Towards the end of the band’s afternoon slot at the packed outdoor venue staff pulled the power as they thought the band were overrunning their time slot.
A tussle then broke out between the bouncers and the band members and sound staff, with frontman Sam Eastgate leaping into the fray before being thrown down the stage’s side stairs by one guard.
However, the tussle calmed and the band finished their set to huge applause.
Explaining the situation to NME.COM after the show, Eastgate said: “The bouncers went behind the sound desk and grabbed Steve, our sound guy, right off the desk.
“They turned off the power but I found a guitar microphone that was on, used that for a bit, then all of a sudden the bouncer had one of us by the throat.
“I saw red. It was quite a big jump, because he’s such a big bouncer. Someone grabbed me and threw me down the stairs.”
The singer added that he wasn’t bitter about the incident, because he believed the crowd could use their own judgement.
“The crowd saw everything so they were really sympathetic,” he said. “That’s a good thing, I suppose, that they could see my frustrations translated into simple terms – as in the venue are fighting us, literally.”
