Check out who's on the red carpet in London
The Shockwaves NME Awards 2008 are currently getting underway, with guests starting to arrive ahead of this evening’s ceremony (February 28).
With the event taking place at the IndigO2 in London, we start dishing out awards from 5pm – and NME.COM will be bringing you all the action live.
Ahead of the ceremony’s start, we’ve hit the red carpet, catching up with the latest arrivals.
Here’s who is currently making their way down the red carpet:
Alex Kapranos, Franz Ferdinand
“We just got a lift with Anton Corbijn in a golf cart which was quite weird. They abandoned us at the side of the road because they thought there was a fire and then we got picked up by the golf cart. I’m excited to see Gallows tonight. I was out with The Cribs last night, it was a beer, wine and whiskey night. I’m feeling it a bit today.”
Matt Bellamy and Dom Howard, Muse
Nicky Wire, Manic Street Preachers
“It’s the most nerve-wracked I’ve ever been at a ceremony, absolutely, it’s just something different. It’s not just about selling records, you know what I mean, it’s people being nice to us.”
“I’m disappointed I’m not going to see Jarvis because he lives in Paris and I’m in Sheffield and we never see each other. NME is an important magazine, my family’s been reading it since the ‘50’s and now my daughter buys it, so I can nick hers off the coffee table.”
“I’m looking forward to the awards, I’ve never been. I’m so excited, and I’ll be at the Big Gig later – I’m looking forward to Klaxons.”
For all the awards coverage head to NME.COM/awards now. We have exclusive picture galleries, live webcams, minute-by-minute blogs straight from the ceremony and Big Gig and video interviews with the biggest names at the ceremony.
That’s just the beginning – the ceremony is being broadcast on E4 at 11pm (GMT) tonight (February 28), with highlights following tomorrow (29) on Channel 4 from 11.50pm.
Meanwhile, next week’s issue of NME – on UK newsstands from March 5 – will contain the ultimate coverage, interviews and photos from the 2008 Shockwaves NME Awards.
