Kylie to join Manics at O2 Arena show?

Godlike Geniuses want singer for Shockwaves NME Awards Big Gig

Manic Street Preachers want to invite Kylie Minogue to join them onstage at the Shockwaves NME Awards Big Gig in February.

The band, who have been named the 2008 Godlike Geniuses, will headline the biggest ever awards show on February 28 at the O2 Arena with Kaiser Chiefs, Bloc Party, Klaxons and The Cribs also playing.

The gig takes place just after the Shockwaves NME Awards ceremony itself, which takes place in the nearby IndigO2, and the Welsh trio already have big plans for the night.

“I’d like to invite Kylie to do something with us,” Nicky Wire told NME.COM. “It just feels like a fantastic opportunity actually. If there’s one thing – the best thing about the original Live Aid is when Queen came along and just fucking did it. They didn’t bore everyone with album tracks or anything, they just edited it down, it was seamless. That’s what we want to do, just go on there and just play our history and make it as entertaining and as exciting as possible.”

Wire added that the pop singer – who is set to star in ’Dr Who’ on Christmas Day – is not the only guest the band want for the massive show.

“We want to get Tom (Meighan) from Kasabian to sing ‘The Masses Against The Classes’,” he declared. “Maybe Tom (Clarke) from The Enemy can play ‘Motown Junk’. We’ve got loads of ideas, there’s loads of people we really like, whether they want to I dunno, but Tom from Kasabian always tells me when he worked in a factory ‘The Masses Against the Classes’ got him through the day.”

Tickets for the Big Gig are on sale exclusively through NME.COM right now.
