SLICK AS A PARROT!

Radio 1 DJ Colin Murray interrupts The Polyphonic Spree's set in fancy dress costume...

The annual NME AWARDS TOUR kicked off in fine style in Scotland last night (January 26), when Radio 1 DJ COLIN MURRAY charged onstage during Polyphonic Spree’s set dressed as a giant parrot!

The Texan collective, as well as The Datsuns, Interpol

and The Thrills played in front of a sold-out Barrowlands crowd and assorted members of the Glasgow music scene.

The night’s highlight came when Murray ran on stage during Polyphonic Spree’s new single ‘Night And Day’ dressed in an outsized blue parrot suit for a skit on Channel 4 music show ‘Born Sloppy’.

He explained: “Every week they give me a dare to do. Last week I had to get onstage and pretend to be Gareth Gates. This week I’m dressed as a giant bird! But I love Polyphonic Spree. As a spectacle you can’t beat them, they were just awesome. You could see that tonight: there was obviously a lot of people here to seeThe Datsuns, but by the time they did ‘Light And Day’ everyone was going nuts for it. The Thrills were magnificent, too.”

The NME Awards Tour is on the road until February 9. For the final few tickets to the remaining dates, call the NME Ticketline on 0870 1 663 663.
