The world's most influential awards gets Los Angeles ceremony
Following the success of last week’s ceremony in London, the NME Awards are set to take place in the US for the first time ever.
The American leg of the awards will take place on April 23 at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles, and will be voted for by NME.COM’s US users.
The British leg of the NME Awards is an important fixture on the world’s music scene, providing support and recognition for new and established talent, something American artists will now be able to enjoy directly.
In recent years the NME Awards have helped launch and support the careers of the likes of The Killers, Pete Doherty, Arctic Monkeys, Kaiser Chiefs and My Chemical Romance, while legends including Radiohead, Kanye West, Oasis, Foo Fighters and Green Day have all been honoured.
The ceremony itself will mirror the British ceremony with its stellar guestlist, live performances and guest presenters, not to mention the important business of handing out the awards on the night to the world’s hottest talents.
Voting for this year’s awards has begun, simply head over to NME.COM/usaawards to see the categories and have your say on who makes the shortlist. Everyone who votes stands the chance of winning a pair of tickets to the invitation-only ceremony in April.
More details of hosts, performances, guests and more categories will be announced soon, along with the all-important shortlist of nominations, so stay tuned to NME.COM.
Meanwhile, the ceremony is not the only awards tradition that is heading over the Atlantic.
The legendary NME Awards Tour, which has given a first leg up to the likes of Franz Ferdinand, Bloc Party, The Killers and most recently this year saw The Smiths’ legendary guitarist Johnny Marr hit the road playing with The Cribs, launches in north America this April.
