The popular festival sees off competition from Glastonbury and Muse

The Carling Weekend: Reading And Leeds Festivals have scooped the Best Live Event award at the Shockwaves NME Awards 2008.

Organiser Melvin Benn picked up the award from The Charlatans‘ frontman Tim Burgess.

The other nominees for the Best Live Event award were Glastonbury, Muse at Wembley Stadium, T In The Park and the V Festival.
