You can also watch part one of our video feature with Gervais and Merchant on the right of your screen now.

The pair were in the studio with DJ Jon Hillcock chatting about their new film Cemetery Junction and the television premiere of their animated podcast show, which airs on Channel 4 tonight at 10:30pm.

The interview sees the duo use some choice language, which although not suitable for broadcast on the radio is available to listen to online via the NME Radio blog.

Talking about how Cemetery Junction is an unashamedly happy flick, Gervais said: “We left the veil of irony behind on purpose. We didn’t wanna do a knockabout comedy with a couple of blokes off a sitcom. I think that’s always a waste. We wanted to do a real film, an emotional journey.

He also described his podcast sidekick Karl Pilkington as someone with ” a completely empty, spherical head” and “a moron”.

When asked by Merchant if he would call Pilkington that to his face, Gervais joked: “I would. To his face. He doesn’t take offence. He doesn’t really know what it means.”
