In a new interview with Rolling Stone, the former Oasis man laid into the Canadian group for releasing a double album, this autumn’s ‘Reflektor’. Though he admitted that he hadn’t heard the album, he commented: “Anybody that comes back with a double album, to me, needs to pry themselves out of their own asshole. This is not the ’70s, okay? Go and ask Billy Corgan about a double album. Who has the fucking time, in 2013, to sit through 45 minutes of a single album? How arrogant are these people to think that you’ve got an hour and a half to listen to a fucking record?”
When asked about Arcade Fire’s concert dresscode, he referred to the band’s music as “shit disco”, asking: “Well, what’s the point of that? Do you know what the point of that is? That is to take away from the shit disco that’s coming out of the speakers. Because everybody’s dressed as one of the Three Musketeers on acid.”
Gallagher went on to profess his love for dance act Disclosure, saying he saw them play at Glastonbury festival over the summer. “I saw Disclosure in the dance tent, and I thought they were truly fucking amazing. I love that record. It’s got a really old-school fucking acid house vibe to it, which I really fucking like,” he commented. He also complimented Kanye West‘s ‘Yeezus’ album and the song ‘Black Skinhead’. “…I got the album, and it’s fucking great. I really like it. Particularly that track – it’s fucking out there, do you know what I mean? It’s got a great lo-fi, punk vibe to it,” said Gallagher.
When discussing Arctic Monkeys, Gallagher said that he was a big fan of “half” of their ‘AM’ LP, saying: “You know, the other half is like, ‘Eh, yeah’ – but half of it is really fucking good.”
Gallagher finished up by saying that he will be spending most of 2014 in the studio, recording the follow-up to his 2011 solo debut, ‘Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’, adding that he could be recording in New York, something he’s never done before.
