Paul Weller (right) was joined onstage by Noel Gallagher for the penultimate song at his London Hackney Victoria Park show on Sunday, (August 9) although his rumoured solo set failed to materialise.

Noel played guitar and sang backing vocals on Weller’s version of the Dr John song ‘Walk On Gilded Splinters’. Noel also introduced Weller at the beginning of his two-hour set.

Noel had played unannounced supports with Weller on his short UK tour playing acoustic versions of ‘Stand By Me’, ‘Don’t Go Away’, ‘Wonderwall’, ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’, ‘Live Forever’ and The Jam’s ‘To Be Someone’. Some of the crowd expected him to do the same at Weller’s London park show.

Also on the bill was Finley Quaye and Ian Dury And The Blockheads, who, with Dury suffering from cancer, gave an emotional performance. Weller has said this was his last performance of ’98.
