Former Oasis guitarist discusses strangers getting him confused with his younger brother
Noel Gallagher has described how he often gets mistaken for brother and former Oasis bandmate Liam on the London Underground.
The singer and guitarist, who released his second solo album ‘Chasing Yesterday’ in March, is currently touring North America, where reporters asked him whether he gets annoyed with people in the States mispronouncing his name as ‘Noël’.
“Not as sick as I get of people calling me Liam,” Gallagher replied, according to Bang Showbiz. “Particularly on the tube. I get the guy down the end of the carriage who is looking above the throng of people and you’re like, ‘Ohh no, he’s going to do it’. And he’ll just go ‘LIAM! Yes man! Liam!’ And it’s just like, fucking hell.”
Noel Gallagher recently said that he “could never forgive” his young sibling Liam over their numerous bust-ups. He said: “My argument is ‘Be a cunt all you want but let’s do the gig first and then be a fucking dick’. His argument is ‘I’m just being a dick all the time’. Repeat endlessly until fucking 2009.”
Oasis broke up in 2009 with Noel citing an inability to work with his brother at the time as the key reason. Recent tabloid reports suggested that Oasis would reform without Noel. However, a representative of Liam Gallagher told NME that he had “no comment” on the rumours.
Meanwhile, Noel Gallagher dedicated a song to Frances Bean Cobain at his LA show last week (May 20). Kurt Cobain’s daughter met Gallagher backstage after the show, later uploading a photo to Twitter. She wrote, “What did you do tonight? @NoelGallagher thank you so much for hanging out&the song dedication & being all around rad!”
Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds play London’s Calling festival in July.
