Noel Gallagher reveals he has ‘destroyed’ the master recording of Amorphous Androgynous album

Former Oasis man talks about ill-fated collaboration plus Damon Albarn and Johnny Marr in new interview

Noel Gallagher has discussed his shelved space-rock album with production duo Amorphous Androgynous, as well as his friendship with both Johnny Marr and Damon Albarn, in a new interview.

Gallagher collaborated with Amorphous Androgynous prior to his debut solo album, ‘Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’, in 2011. Their joint record was never released, although two collaborations with the pair – ‘The Right Stuff’ and ‘The Mexican’ – did eventually feature on Gallagher’s latest album ‘Chasing Yesterday’, which was released in March.

After the duo’s Garry Cobain recent claimed that Gallagher is “too afraid to be weird” and would rather “do things exactly the same as ever”, Noel has now responded in a new video interview with Noisey. He said, “The album got finished. We spent a lot of time working on it, but the way that they work is that they get me in and I play all day then they take it away. Then the next thing you hear, you go ‘Well, that’s not what I was thinking’. It became apparent that they weren’t making a record for me but I was making a record for them. You know me, that’s not going to fucking work.”

Gallagher added that fans are unlikely to hear the album, because he destroyed the only existing copy. “There’s no bootleg because I own the master and I destroyed it. My manager’s not even heard it. I wouldn’t play it. It was so underwhelming to me that I never played it to anybody. I’m not going to put records out to please people and their imagination, then they hear it and go ‘Actually, it’s a bit shit’. I know it’s shit that’s why it’s not coming out and that’s the end of it.”

Gallagher also describes how he came to be the lead guitarist in his Britpop band, adding, “I only played lead guitar in Oasis because nobody else could do it and Bonehead was bald, and that would have been preposterous.” Watch the full video interview below.

Earlier this week, Liam Gallagher declined to comment following tabloid reports suggesting that the Britpop band would reform without Noel.

Oasis split in 2009 with Noel citing an inability to work with his brother as the key reason. Last month (April 19), however, tabloid reports emerged suggesting that a reunion for the band was on the cards, with a ‘well-placed source’ saying the brothers had come to “a gentlemen’s agreement” to reunite.

Noel Gallagher subsequently denied that he would be interested in a Oasis reunion, claiming that the rumour came from a “source close to Liam”.

Earlier this week, The Sun reported that the band will reunite even without their songwriter and lead guitarist. However, a representative of Liam told NME that Gallagher had “no comment” on the tabloid reports.
