Noel Gallagher has revealed who he’s tipping to win the World Cup, and it’s bad news for England fans across the land.
The former Oasis star is backing Belgium to lift the cup, after native stars Vincent Kompany and Kevin DeBruyne played a huge role in winning the Premier League for Gallagher’s beloved Manchester City.
“I’m gonna put a Belgium flag over the life-sized cardboard cut out of Matthew McConaughey which sits on our front room window,” the ‘Holy Mountain’ singer told Radio X.
He added: “I think I’m going to go for Belgium”.
Earlier this month, the Football Association also confirmed that England will heading to this summer’s tournament in Russia without the support of an official single.
While previous official efforts have included the legendary likes of ‘World In Motion’ by New Order featuring John Barnes, ‘Three Lions’ by Baddiel And Skinner with The Lightning Seeds, ‘(How Does it Feel to Be) on Top of the World?’ by Ian McCulloch and the Spice Girls, and ‘We’re On The Ball’ by Ant & Dec, this year’s World Cup will see the team playing without a sanctioned anthem.
“There is no official World Cup song planned,” said a spokesman from the FA.
In March, FIFA’s official World Cup song for 2018 was revealed as ‘Colors’ by Jason Derulo.
His effort follows previous World Cup-related songs by the likes of Pitbull and Jennifer Lopez (who collaborated on the track ‘We Are One (Ole Ola)’) as well as Shakira, who contributed music to the 2014 and 2010 World Cups respectively.
