Noel Gallagher has criticised Brian Wilson in a new interview, describing the Beach Boys icon as one of the most “overrated” figures in music – even more so than himself.
Gallagher recently spoke to Paste when comparisons were made between the vast arrangements utilised on his new album and that of Wilson’s own music.
Noel didn’t respond kindly, replying: “Fuckin’ hell—I hate Brian Wilson! And you know what? If there’s a more overrated person in the music business than me, it’s that guy.”
Gallagher went on to add: “But these experiments were great… I wasn’t worried that I might go too far; I wasn’t in that frame of mind… I just think my flame burns a little bit brighter now—I’m at a creative peak. And my band that I started out with six or seven years ago is not the same band that I’m in now. I’ve got different people, and I’ve got girls in the band.”
Elsewhere in the same interview, Noel slammed Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, saying: “Fuck Jeremy Corbyn. He’s a Communist.”
The former Oasis guitarist released his new High Flying Birds album ‘Who Built the Moon?’ last week (November 24). Read the NME review here.
NME‘s Mark Beaumont writes of Gallagher’s new LP: “It’s Noel’s freewheeling solo freedom and return-to-mega-form song-writing that makes this amongst the albums of the year. Noel shoots for ‘…The Moon’, and strikes bullseye.”
