NWA could reform for live promotional dates with Eminem as honorary member

Universal Pictures pushing legendary group to reform for promotional tour

NWA could reform to promote their forthcoming biopic, a film studio chief has revealed.

Universal Pictures chairman Donna Langley said that the studio is attempting to arrange a European reunion tour to follow the release of Straight Outta Compton next month (August).

The group, whose members include Ice Cube, Dr Dre, MC Ren and DJ Yella, would be joined on tour by Eminem, acting as an honorary member Langley revealed. Eminem features on the film’s soundtrack along with Dre and Kendrick Lamar.

“We don’t have anything settled yet with everyone’s schedules,” Langely told Hollywood Reporter. “But we think it can create a lot of buzz.”

Last month, N.W.A. members Ice Cube, MC Ren, and DJ Yella reunited for a performance at the BET Experience.

With Straight Outta Compton set to be released in the UK on August 28, director F. Gary Gray recently spoke about its soundtrack in a new interview.

“Dr Dre, it took him 15 years to step out and say, ‘I want to do music again’ in the way that he’s doing it,” Grew told MTV News at San Diego Comic-Con.

“The soundtrack is insane. Seriously, it’s incredible. He went deep and you can hear some of his influences, with jazz and soul and a little bit of funk. And Kendrick Lamar is on, Eminem; a lot of great guest stars. But it’s really Dre and how he’s evolved and how he’s matured as not only a person, but as an artist. It’s deep and it’s great.”
