Dr Dre joined Ice Cube onstage at Coachella last night (April 23), along with MC Ren and DJ Yella, in the first live reunion of all surviving members of NWA in 27 years. MC Ren and DJ Yella had also joined Ice Cube for his Coachella set last weekend.
However, the reunited members did not perform any NWA classics, instead playing Dr Dre’s ‘Still Dre’ and 2Pac’s ‘California Love’.
Ice Cube also brought out Kendrick Lamar for a performance of his 2015 hit ‘Alright’, and dedicated the set to the late Prince, who died on Thursday (April 21) aged 57. See clips of all performances below [via CoS.]
NWA were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame earlier in April, but did not perform together. Kiss frontman Gene Simmons later criticised their induction, to which Ice Cube recently responded.
After Simmons tweeted saying “let me know when Jimi Hendrix gets into the Hip Hop Hall Of Fame”, Ice Cube responded by pointing out the black influence on the genre of rock and roll.
“Who stole the soul? Chuck Berry, Little Richard and Chubby Checkers help invent Rock n Roll. We invent it. Y’all reprint it,” Ice Cube wrote on Twitter.
