Ice Cube in talks to make NWA biopic

Director John Singleton says he wants to work with 'Boyz N The Hood' star on movie about 80s hip hop band

Film director John Singleton says he’s in talks with rapper Ice Cube about making an NWA biopic.

Singleton, who directed films such as 2 Fast 2 Furious, Four Brothers and 1991’s Boyz N The Hood, which starred the rapper, is believed to have a number of projects in development, with a movie about the genre-defining hip hop band at the top of the pile.

“I can’t talk about it too prematurely about the stuff I’m doing because nothing’s come to fruition yet,” he told The Playlist. “But Cube and I are talking about doing the NWA story.”

He added:

The script is really, really good, and so we’re just figuring it out. New Line really want to make it.

News first surfaced of a proposed NWA film in 2009 when Cube announced that he planned to produce a film about his days as a member of the influential rap group.

Currently, four writers, including Andrea Berloff, S. Leigh Savidge, Alan Wenkus and Matt Alvarez, are attached to the project, and Cube is joined as a producer by David Engel, Bill Strauss, and Tomica Wright.
