Oasis have cancelled their show in Paris tonight (May 23) amid growing rumours that a serious rift has developed within the group.
A spokesperson for the Palais Omnisport de Paris at Bercy told nme.com at lunchtime today that the cancellation had only come within the last couple of hours.
“It wasn’t the decision of the venue,” she said. “It was a production decision.”
She also revealed that less than half the venue’s tickets had been sold. Only between six and seven thousand of a possible 15,000 had been bought. This adds an extra spin to UK newspapers reports from this morning claiming Noel Gallagher had walked out on the band yesterday, fed up with brother Liam‘s excessive drinking and the constant grind of touring.
Oasis had also cancelled their previous European show, Saturday night’s gig in Barcelona (May 20), citing a wrist injury to drummer Alan White as the cause.
Oasis‘ management and press representatives are unavailable for comment, simply saying a statement will be made later. Fans with tickets for the concert tonight have been emailed by the venue notifying them of the cancellation.
