Oasis take on The Beatles in UK album chart

U2 and Westlife battle for top slot too

Oasis are all set to take on their heroes The Beatles in the UK Album chart – while U2 and Westlife will also be battling for the top.

Four of the UK’s biggest selling bands all release new albums today (November 20). Oasis and U2 are releasing greatest hits albums ‘Stop the Clocks’ and ‘U218 Singles’, while Westlife release ‘The Love Album’ and The Beatles issue their eagerly-awaited ‘mash-up’ album ‘LOVE’.

And nationwide music chain HMV predict that the eventual victors are likely to be U2, though Oasis are strongly tipped to top the chart after the first week of sales.

HMV‘s spokesman Gennaro Castaldo told the BBC: “Christmas starts here as far as music retailers are concerned, as it’s not everyday that some of the world’s biggest ever super groups have albums out.

“It’s going to be close to see who comes out on top, but we reckon Oasis‘s ‘Stop The Clocks’ will go to Number One by the end of the week, though U2 may look to sell more copies of ‘18 Singles’ over the next month, or so.”
