Odd Future‘s leader Tyler, The Creator has revealed his music is influenced by artists such as Beach House and Broadcast.
Speaking to The Guardian, the rapper explained that listening to indie and chillwave artists has inspired the “pretty chords” on many of his tunes.
“I listen to Washed Out, Beach House and Broadcast. That’s what I’m influenced by. [That’s why] the music is a mixture of pretty chords, fuckin’ hardcore drums and basslines, and really nice strings,” he commented.
Tyler also revealed his admiration for Joy Division and added that his other influences include “a bunch of French jazz, old soundtracks, library music, shit with crazy chord progressions and changes in it”.
Tyler, The Creator is due to release his latest solo album, ‘Goblin’ on May 10.
The Los Angeles rap group recently hit London for a series of chaotic shows.
They were watched by the likes of Adele and Mark Ronson at an impromptu secret gig at the YoYo clubnight at Notting Hill Arts Centre nine days ago, (April 28), before inciting a stage invasion at the Camden Crawl on Sunday (May 1).
