WU-TANG CLAN rapper OL’ DIRTY BASTARD has been sentenced to between two and four years behind bars after pleading guilty to possession of crack cocaine.

According to US reports this morning (July 19), the rapper was sentenced by Supreme Court Justice Joseph Grosso in New York on charges that stem from an incident in 1999 when police stopped ODB‘s car for alleged traffic offences, but then discovered the class A drug.

Because the star has been behind bars for the last eight months, that time will be taken into account as part of his sentence, and it has been recommended that he his placed in the Arthur Kill Correctional Facility in Staten Island, although this is currently not confirmed.

In addition, ODB, real name Russell Jones, will be periodically checked by the New York State Department of Correctional Services on his mental and physical health.

As reported yesterday on NME.COM, the rapper was placed on suicide watch and had his sentencing postponed after fears he tried to hurt himself on the psychiatric ward where he was being held.

ODB was due to appear at a sentencing hearing on Tuesday (July 17) in New York, but Kings County Hospital sent a report to the court alleging that he had tried to harm himself earlier that day.

However, according to MTV news, the rapper’s lawyer Peter Frankel described the cut as a “non-incident” following his sentencing yesterday.

He commented: “Yesterday’s incident was a non-incident. It was just bad timing. (ODB) sustained a cut to his left arm and it’s not clear how it happened. It was a superficial wound and wasn’t anything that could even arguably be considered a suicide attempt. It’s possible it was an accident.”
