ODB (real name Russell Jones) was in his Brooklyn home when two men pushed through the unlocked door and threatened him with a pistol. The robbers stole jewellery and then fired the pistol, wounding the rapper in the back.
ODB then drove to Brooklyn’s Interfaith Medical Center and was admitted at 5.30pm (New York Time). The Center’s public relations director Lars Lorman told NME.com: “He had a gunshot wound in the back and the arm. It appeared there was one bullet that had entered his back and exited through the arm.”
ODB was X-rayed and had his wounds bandaged. Doctors ordered him to stay overnight, hooked to an oxygen monitoring machine, in case of any damage to his lungs.
However, when a duty nurse visited the rapper’s room at midnight, she found ODB dressed and preparing to leave.
Lorman continued: “She asked him what he was doing and he said he was leaving. He walked out through an emergency exit and set off an alarm, then walked through the lot to his van and drove off.”
Doctors were no longer worried about the Wu-Tang star’s condition, as the gunshot wound was deemed ‘superficial’. Lorman added that at no time had the rapper shown threatening behaviour towards hospital staff.
ODB, who has recently been calling himself Osiris and Big Baby Jesus as well, made headlines at this year’s Grammy Awards after running onstage and disrupting Shawn Colvin’s acceptance speech for one of her two awards.
