Omar Apollo drops alluring new single, ‘Kamikaze’

Hot on the heels of his latest single 'Stayback'

Omar Apollo has dropped his third single of the year, the alluring and melodic ‘Kamikaze’.

Taken from his forthcoming debut album, the track, released today (September 10), follows quickly behind his August single ‘Stayback’ and the Daft Punk-inspired track ‘Imagine U’.

In a press release, Apollo spoke about the inspiration behind ‘Kamikaze’, saying, “‘Kamikaze’ is a song that taps into my old emotions, taking it back to when I was younger.

“When I made ‘Kamikaze’ I was reminiscing on how I used to feel for someone and realizing those feelings are lost and we’re left with nothing.

“It feels good to hold on to the memories without the feelings it gave me.”

Listen to ‘Kamikaze’ now:

Last year Apollo teamed up with Florida rapper Dominic Fike on the collaborative release ‘Hit Me Up’, produced by Kenny Beats.

He was recently featured as part of NME‘s Radar Roundup, where his sound was described as “Prince meets Thundercat”.

“Where falsetto vocals slither amongst squelching production.”

NME also named Apollo one of its 100 essential new artists for 2020, labelling him “2020s’ answer to Prince”.

“[He has a] chameleon-like ability to transform into a funk-minded hybrid of Prince and David Bowie.”

Apollo’s as-of-yet untitled debut album will follow his EPs, ‘Stereo’ and ‘Friends’, released in 2018 and 2019 respectively.
