One Direction fail to knock Avicii off Official UK Number One spot

Meanwhile, The Rolling Stones' 'Hyde Park Live' LP enters the UK's Official Albums Chart at Number 16

One Direction have failed to knock Avicii off the top of the UK’s Official Singles Chart with their new track ‘Best Song Ever’.

Avicii’s ‘Wake Me Up’ notches up a second week at Number One after outselling ‘Best Song Ever’ by two copies to one, the Official Charts Company reports. Since its release two weeks ago, ‘Wake Me Up’ has already shifted over 420,000 copies in the UK.

Robin Thicke’s million-selling ‘Blurred Lines’ slips to third this week, with John Newman’s ‘Love Me Again’ and Icona Pop’s ‘I Love It’ – both former chart-toppers – at Numbers 4 and 5 respectively. Meanwhile, Lana Del Rey‘s ‘Summertime Sadness’ climbs 50 places to Number 32 to become her sixth UK Top 40 hit.

Over on the UK’s Official Albums Chart, Robin Thicke‘s ‘Blurred Lines’ LP – home to the massive hit of the same name – slips to second behind the debut album from X Factor runner-up Jahmene Douglas, ‘Love Never Fails’, which enters at Number One. Jay Z‘s ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail’ slips to Number 3 in its third week on sale, the Official Chart Company confirms.

Meanwhile, The Rolling Stones debut at Number 16 with their ‘Hyde Park Live’ LP, notching up their 44th UK Top 40 album in the process. Fuck Buttons score their highest position on the Official Albums Chart to date after entering at Number 36 with third set ‘Slow Focus’.
