Psy and One Direction win at France’s NRJ awards

Korean viral sensation and boyband scoop gongs at annual ceremony

Psy and One Direction were among the big winners at the French NRJ Awards

The Korean star, whose song ‘Gangnam Style’ became a global hit after being watched more than 1.2 billion times on YouTube, won three awards; International Song Of The Year, Video Of The Year and a special NRJ Award Of Honour.

One Direction, who performed ‘Kiss You’ at the ceremony at the Palais De Festivals in Cannes, picked up the gong for Best International Group.

Other NRJ Music Awards winners included Tal, who won Breakthrough Of The Year, Carly Rae Jepsen, who was awarded International Breakthrough Of The Year, Bruno Mars, who was named International Male Artist Of The Year, and Rihanna, who was crowned International Female Artist Of The Year for the third time.

Taylor Swift also performed ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together’, apparently aimed at her ex-boyfriend Harry Styles who was in the audience with his One Direction bandmates.

The annual awards were founded in 2000 by French radio station NRJ in partnership with TV station TF1. Alicia Keys, Emeli Sande and Ed Sheeran were also in attendance.
