Boyband's second album 'Take Me Home' is Number One in the midweek charts
One Direction are on course to score the fastest-selling album of 2012 with their second long-player ‘Take Me Home’.
According to midweek figures released today (November 14) by the Official Charts Company, the smash hit boyband are currently outselling Rod Stewart’s ‘Merry Christmas Baby’ by more than three copies to one.
Last year, One Direction’s debut ‘Up All Night’ was kept off the top spot by Rihanna‘s ‘Talk That Talk’. But with a current sales tally of 94,000 copies after less than three days, it looks set to not just take the top spot, but take the title of this year’s fastest-selling album away from Mumford & Sons. At this point in the week, their seond album ‘Babel’ had shifted 89,000 copies, ending the week on 150,000 sales.
The Rolling Stones‘ 50th anniversary collection ‘GRRR!’ is a new entry at Number Three, the second of Green Day’s trilogy ‘iDos!’ is new at four, while Robbie Williams’ ‘Take The Crown’ drops four places to five.
Further down the chart, there are new album entries for Soundgarden with their comeback album ‘King Animal’ at 13, Christina Aguilera with ‘Lotus’ at 18, Deftones with ‘Koi No Yokan’ at 19, and Steps with their Christmas album ‘Light Up The World’ at 22.
Over on the singles chart, the battle for Number One is between Bruno Mars with ‘Locked Out Of Heaven’ and Little Mix with ‘DNA’, with Mars currently having the edge.
