Zayn Malik announces first solo single since leaving One Direction

'Pillowtalk' will arrive on January 29

Former One Direction singer Zayn Malik has announced the release of his first solo single since leaving the group in March 2015.

‘Pillowtalk’ will be the first single from his upcoming debut solo album, and will be released on Friday, January 29.

Last year Malik gave his first interview since leaving One Direction. Speaking to The Fader, Malik said of his music, “I don’t feel like people really know what I’m going to give them, musically. And once they hear it, I feel like they will understand me a little bit more, and they’ll understand why I did what I did, and why I left the band, and why I had to write this shit down. Because for five—not even for five years, for ten years, this album has been in my brain, and it’s just been there, sat with me, needing to be out.”

None of Malik’s full solo tracks have been revealed yet, but a clip of ‘Befour’ can be heard in the video below:

The announcement of ‘Pillowtalk’ as singer’s first single comes two days after it was confirmed that he would be appearing on The Graham Norton Show, also next Friday.

Malik will not be performing on the show, but will join fellow guests Will Smith and Ryan Reynolds plus Dad’s Army stars Catherine Zeta-Jones and Toby Jones on Norton’s sofa. Laura Mvula will be the episode’s musical guest.

The episode will air on January 29 at 10.35pm on BBC One.
