Zayn Malik tweets for the first time since leaving One Direction

Malik returns to twitter after a month long hiatus following his decision to leave the group

Zayn Malik has taken to twitter today (April 20) for the first time since leaving One Direction in March.

Malik tweeted his thanks to all those that have supported him since his decision to leave. Read the tweet below.

The tweet followed Malik’s appearance at the Asian Awards on Friday (April 18). He picked up the Outstanding Contribution to Music Award and used his acceptance speech to thank God, his parents “for making me Asian” and his former bandmates, stating:

“I’d also like to take this moment to thank four of the best guys that I ever met, everything I’ve done with them will stay with me for the rest of my life. I thank you for that.”

Malik also took to twitter to re-tweet two selfies from the award show. His last tweet was posted over a month ago, following news that he would leave the band. See that tweet below.

Malik departed the boy band in March due to stress induced by press speculation over his love life.

Simon Cowell recently described the moment he found Zayn Malik was leaving One Direction, joking to James Corden that he was “about to jump off a cliff”.

Meanwhile, it was recently reported that One Direction had begun planning their next album.

The news was followed by the first official press shot of the band as a four-piece, with body language experts claiming that the picture shows signs of disunity in the group.

Meanwhile, it was reported earlier today (April 20) that One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson has started his own record label. The singer has already signed The X-Factor finalist Jack Walton and is currently auditioning for a girlband.
