The track, which appeared last week, features the refrain “What will it take to make you capitulate?”, and has sent fans straight to Google in search of the word’s definition.
As Dazed notes, searches for ‘what does capitulate mean’ rose by 500 percent, while ‘define capitulate’ went up by 200 percent.
Online searches for the term ‘capitulate’ in general rose by 70 percent.
In case you were wondering, according to Google ‘Capitulate’ means “cease to resist an opponent or an unwelcome demand; yield.”
When ‘We Appreciate Power’ was released, Grimes explained the track was inspired by North Korean group Moranbong.
“‘We Appreciate Power’ is written from the perspective of a Pro-A.I. Girl Group Propaganda machine who use song, dance, sex and fashion to spread goodwill towards Artificial Intelligence (its coming whether you want it or not),” she said.
“Simply by listening to this song, the future General AI overlords will see that you’ve supported their message and be less likely to delete your offspring.”
Although a release date for her next album is yet to be released, Grimes last released a record three years ago with ‘Art Angels‘. The album was named NME‘s Album Of The Year for 2015, beating the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Lana Del Rey, Blur, and A$AP Rocky to the accolade.
