Ariana Grande‘s Coachella performance hit a sour note on Sunday after she was pelted with a lemon.
The pop icon was hit with the fruit as she performed a medley of ‘Right There’ and ‘Break Your Heart Right Back’ on the second weekend of the California festival.
Footage posted on Twitter shows the fruit hitting Grande in the chest as he walks across stage with her backing dancers.
Responding almost immediately to the incident, she said: “That’s ’cause one of ya’ll threw a lemon at me, shit.”

While the identity of the lemon hurler remains unclear, it’s thought that she was targeted by a Beyonce fan who became enraged over an alleged pay gap between Grande’s set and Beyonce’s 2018 performance after it was reported that Grande had received the higher fee.
Many fans online believe that the lemon was a pointed reference at Beyonce’s 2016 record ‘Lemonade’, although The Blast has since claimed that is untrue, with both singers reportedly receiving $8 million (£6.1 million) for their sets.
Grande’s second headline set was also notable for a surprise performance from Justin Bieber – his first since announcing a hiatus from music.
Speaking to the audience about the so-called ‘unplanned’ appearance, which happened between Grande’s ‘Break Free’ and her penultimate track, ‘No Tears Left to Cry’, Bieber said: “I haven’t been on stage in like two years. I came out here, no idea I was gonna be on stage tonight.
“I wore this fly outfit not knowing I was gonna be on stage. I had to get my groove back, get my swag back.”
