Franz Ferdinand also score a gong...
Outkast and Jay-Z were the big winners at the MTV Video Music Awards in Miami last night (August 29), with each taking four gongs.
Meanwhile, Franz Ferdinand capped a soaraway year picking up the Breakthrough Award for ‘Take Me Out’.
Outkast took the biggest prize of the night winning Best Video of The year for ‘Hey Ya!’. They also scored with Best Hip-Hop Video for the same track and with awards for special effects and editing.
Jay-Z had been nominated for six awards for his ’99 Problems’ video. His wins included Best rap video.
“I felt like I was trying to push the envelope,” he said accepting the award.
Other winners included mighty rockers Jet, Beyonce, No Doubt, Usher, the Black Eyed Peas and Alicia Keys, who performed a duet with Stevie Wonder and Lenny Kravitz. Christina Aguilera, Usher, and The Polyphonic Spree were amongst the other performers at the American Airlines Arena.
There was none of the controversy of last year when Madonna kissed Britney Spears and Christine Aguilera onstage.
The Darkness must also wonder if their time in the sun is coming to an end. Despite being nominated as Best New Artist and for Best Rock Video for ‘I Believe In A Thing Called Love’, they failed to win in either category.
